Process:
- The employer must have a valid "Employers Registration" (Constancia de Empleador) from the Migration Institute in Mexico (Instituto Nacional de Migracion INM)
- Verify that the foreigner has a Valid Passport from their Home Country and is outside of Mexico.
- The employer must begin the process at the INM, employer must provide copy of Employers Registration, Copy of foreigners passport, offer letter with salary, work title, job description, foreigners address in Mexico. Requirements might vary in each city.
- Mexican Consulate will schedule an appointment with the foreigner in the location closest to his home to conduct an interview and verify the foreigners documents. Mexican Consulate will provide a permit to enter Mexico.
- Foreigner will enter Mexico with the permit and will obtain an FMM document at the airport. Foreigner has 30 days to exchange these documents at the INM office where the process was started to exchange it for a Temporary Residence Card with Permission to Work.
- Once the foreigner has this Card, he is able to obtain a Social Security Number, Tax Id Number, open bank accounts, and be legally hired by a Mexican Corporation.
- It is the foreigners responsibility to renew his Resident card and to notify the INM of any changes of address, marital status, nationality or job. The renewal of the residence can begin within 30 days of the expiration date. To notify changes foreigner has 90 days since the change occurred or fines will apply.
